CCM British MMX Championship Round 7
Location: Howton Court , Pontrilas, UK
John Mitchell Wins the British Championship 2007
Due to the cancellation of the final round, the CCM British MMX Quad Championship was left to be decided at the Howton Court track on 19 th August. Team ATV World Yamaha rider John Mitchell had an impressive round to take the overall championship lead, retaining his number one British Champion title. Paul Holmes produced another superb result which took him to the top of the under 21’s championship in only his second season.
John’s final round of the CCM British MMX Quad Championships didn’t get off to a good start when a rule infringement dropped him to 14th place in qualifying. This was disappointing as the ATV World Yamaha YFZ450’s were running perfectly. John was the fastest, but dropped to third at the end of the session. Starting back in 14 th, John described it as the most nerve wracking day of the season. Paul Holmes was riding well in qualifying to finish seventh but due to John’s penalty, moved up to sixth.

In race one, John said; “A t least it was a front row start, but I was
at the far outside of the start line. I gated mid-pack, but got boxed
in on the third corner and got stuck in one of the many deep ruts that
the bikes and sidecars had left which put me dead last. I pushed as
hard as I could, posting the fastest lap and getting up to third on the
last lap.” John now only had an eight point lead of Paul Winrow in the
championship. Paul Holmes didn’t get the best start, making 17 th off
the start. Paul worked his way up to 11 th but was suffering from a
gear problem.
John Mitchell got a much better start in race two and took the lead
after a couple of laps. John pulled a comfortable gap from second place
man Ricky Tordoff, allowing him to relax and race as smooth as
possible, finishing with an awesome 43 second lead. Paul Holmes had
also got a better start this time and had a superb race to finish in
eighth place, taking the 2007 under 21 championship title and finishing
10 th overall in the British Championship.
It was a jubilant day for team ATV World as John retained the number one position as Champion and Paul Holmes achieved his target of becoming the under 21 British Champion. But the season doesn’t stop here. With John leading the IOPD British Quad-X Championship and the European Quadcross Championships, the opportunity to win the treble is still on.

Team ATV World Yamaha now travels to Hungary for the third round of the European Quadcross Championships on 26 th August.
Thanks for all the support from the sponsors who have helped team ATV
World Yamaha, John Mitchell and Paul Holmes become the undisputed 2007
British Champions.
